The Environmental Control Unit/Prime Power Unit (ECU/PPU) is designed for the U.S. Army Avenger Air Defense System to provide electrical power, cooling, heating, and make-up air to the turret. The system is powered by a Hatz 2G-40 air-cooled diesel engine coupled with a shaft-mounted, three-phase brushless permanent magnet generator.

The vapor cycle air conditioning system uses environmentally compliant R-134a refrigerant and is capable of operating in severe desert conditions. Electrical heaters provide reliable heating, and the make-up air passes through an NBC filter at 40 CFM for safe operation. The control unit integrates electronic engine speed control and ECU/PPU electronic control with solid-state components mounted on printed circuit boards for high reliability.

The ECU/PPU meets U.S. Army AMCOM specifications (MIS-46246D) and ensures reliable power and environmental control for tactical operations.
