Our newly developed Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is designed to deliver reliable electrical and hydraulic power to heavy vehicles in the field. It provides backup support for the M88A2 Hercules Heavy Recovery Vehicle, as well as power for refueling and fuel transfer operations. The APU can also be used as a portable 28 VDC and hydraulic power source.

The unit offers three operational modes:

  1. Idle Mode – Low noise, low fuel consumption standby condition

  2. Generator Mode – For charging battery packs

  3. Hydraulic Mode – To support the vehicle’s hydraulic power requirements

A permanent magnet generator and hydraulic pump are mounted directly on the flywheel of a Hatz 2G40 two-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine. This design eliminates the need for belts, chains, or additional bearings, ensuring durability and reduced maintenance.

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) manages voltage, current, idle speed, start/stop functions, protection, and diagnostics through CANbus communication.

Key Features

  • Electrical output: 6 kW at 28 VDC

  • Hydraulic output: 8 kW (9 GPM @ 1800 PSI)

  • Rugged air-cooled Hatz diesel engine

  • Permanent magnet generator for reliable performance

  • Low fuel consumption (~2.27 L/h)

  • CANbus communication with ECM for monitoring and diagnostics
